Dear CCIS Members, Partners, and Supporters,
As the vibrant colours of fall blanket the landscape, it’s a wonderful time to get outdoors and appreciate the beauty of nature. While you’re out on the trails this season, we encourage you to report any sightings of potential invasive plants, insects, or animals and to “Play Clean Go” by taking small but impactful steps to prevent the spread of invasive species. Whether you’re hiking, biking, or enjoying a fall campout, cleaning your gear and boots before and after your adventures helps protect the natural spaces we cherish.
October marks the end of Firewood Month, an initiative focused on raising awareness about the risks of spreading forest pests by moving firewood. We encourage everyone to prevent invasive pests from hitching a ride on untreated firewood by buying and burning locally sourced firewood to protect the health of our forests. Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word and promoted ‘Buy Local Burn Local‘ and ‘Don’t Move Firewood’ messaging this past month.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to invite you to our Wildfires, Climate Change, and Invasive Species conference on November 19th. This virtual event will feature expert speakers and important discussions about the intersection of these critical issues and how they’re reshaping our ecosystems. Thank you to our sponsors and speakers for making this event possible and for their support in safeguarding Canada’s natural landscapes for future generations. Be sure to mark your calendars!

Executive Director, Canadian Council on Invasive Species
