Wild Pig Efforts in Canada

Initiated in 2021, Canada’s Invasive Wild Pig Strategy was developed collaboratively with partners across Canada in response to the significant threat that invasive wild pig populations pose to Canada’s environment, agriculture industry, natural habitats and native species. This strategy recognizes that invasive wild pigs in Canada are a clear example of a One Health issue affecting multiple facets of our society and therefore requires a “team effort”, involving multiple partners, disciplines, and jurisdictions to successfully manage the issue.

This strategy is intended to be a living document to guide Canada’s Invasive Wild Pig Leadership Group, comprised of representatives from multiple sectors, jurisdictions and regions across Canada. The Leadership Group serves as a focal point for strategic collaboration and action and is tasked with directing the implementation of the goals, actions and objectives of the strategy through efforts to enhance the understanding of problem, educate on best management practices, coordinate efforts across regions, and systematically track progress towards shared goals.

The Canadian Council on Invasive Species works to coordinate the Invasive Wild Pig Leadership Group in partnership with Animal Health Canada.
